Tacoma Subarea Art Plan

PITCH DECK

Project Overview

In partnership with Emma Wiseman we designed the Tacoma Subarea Art Plan pitch deck. Proposed by local artists Horatio Law and Linda Wysong to the City of Tacoma, this plan reimagines the Tacoma Mall area as a green, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood that fosters connection, pride, and community. Using a natural yet corporate aesthetic, the pitch emphasizes the role of local art and nature in transforming underutilized spaces.

79 pages total.

Vision and Key Section

The pitch deck presents a structured vision through ten key sections:
  • Introduction
  • Vision & Principles
  • The Art of Walking (essay)
  • Summary of the Subarea Plan
  • Research and Methods
  • Loop Road - Streets for People
  • Challenges & Opportunities
  • Conclusion
  • Appendix

Each section is designed with subsections to guide city leaders through an actionable framework that integrates art, green spaces, and community-centered design.

Design Elements &
Mapping Art Opportunities

I developed custom maps to illustrate the area and identify key locations for potential art installations. These visuals showcase where art can transform neglected spaces into vibrant gathering places that enhance accessibility and neighborhood pride.

I also took the job of creating icons for showing the different sections within the health index of the subarea.

Impact & Community Connection

The Tacoma Subarea Art Plan envisions a community-centered environment where art, nature, and design unite. Through this plan, South Tacoma could become a space where residents experience a sense of belonging and pride. By embracing art’s role in fostering well-being, this proposal offers a blueprint for using creativity to inspire growth and connection in Tacoma.

Initial Design Concepts

In our first round of designs for the Tacoma Subarea  pitch deck, we explored several approaches to balance a natural and corporate look. These early versions included draft layouts for the introduction, visual styles to highlight local art opportunities, and color schemes reflecting Tacoma’s character. Each concept was crafted to capture the vision of a connected, art-focused community, providing the client with options for feedback and refinement.
